Lively music and food set the scene for Business Mercado on Saturday.
The St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church Ballet Folklorico entertained audiences as merchants welcomed visitors during the event that emphasized the Hispanic facets of the Abilene business community.
Visitors toured booths and met representatives of a diverse range of businesses, from insurance and auto parts to internet providers. Some tables offered candies for passersby, others cookies or even tamales.
Games were a theme, as well, usually involving bean bags thrown at a target. Usually, the prize was a candy.
There was one notable exception, however.
Some contestants flashed back to their childhood as they attempted to throw a flip-flop or slide – a chancla –through successively smaller holes.
